Methodology and data sources
Gold-Rates.org publishes reference metal values. The figures are designed for comparison and calculation, not as executable dealer quotes.
Market data
Our server retrieves gold and foreign-exchange data from the GoldPriceZ API over HTTPS. The API key is stored only on the server. Responses are cached locally, and public pages read from that cache rather than contacting the provider on every visit.
Each price page shows when our cache was last refreshed. If an update fails, the previous successful observation remains available instead of replacing it with zero or an incomplete response.
Purity formula
24K is treated as the pure-gold reference. Other karats are calculated as: 24K price x karat / 24. Therefore 22K uses 91.67% of the 24K value, 18K uses 75%, and 14K uses 58.33%.
Weight conversion
One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams. One kilogram is 1,000 grams. The site also supports market-specific units including tola, baht and tael. All unit calculations derive from a single cached gram or ounce reference to keep results internally consistent.
Retail differences
Calculated spot value normally excludes VAT or sales tax, making charges, dealer spreads, refining costs, assay fees, brand premiums and collectible value. City pages use the country's currency reference and do not claim that every shop in that city offers the displayed number.
Update policy
Currencies are updated in a rotating queue to respect the data provider's request limits. This means two markets may have slightly different refresh times. We prefer a clear timestamp and reliable cache over excessive requests.
